Established in 1970, Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) is located one hour south of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Ranked sixth in the nation for architectural innovation and design by the American Institute of Architects, the city of Columbus has more than 60 buildings and pieces of public art by internationally noted architects and artists. Columbus is also home of the Indiana University Center for Art and Design, which opened in 2011.
With about 1,700 part- and full-time students each year, IUPUC primarily serves students who live in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Ripley, Shelby, and other counties in southern Indiana. Most IUPUC graduates have deep roots in this region of Indiana, with families who have lived, worked and raised families in the area for generations.
One of the state’s best educational values, IUPUC offers traditional day and evening classes in Columbus, about 100 hybrid and online courses each semester, and off-site courses at the Jackson County Learning Center in Seymour and the Greensburg Learning Center.
IUPUC students can complete a number of undergraduate (business, communication studies, education, English, general studies, mechanical engineering, nursing, psychology, and sociology) degrees and graduate (Master of Arts in Business Administration and Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling) degree programs in Columbus.
Many students complete their first year or two of prerequisite and general education courses at IUPUC and then transfer to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) or Indiana University's Bloomington campus to complete degree programs that are not currently offered in Columbus.
IUPUC has 53 full-time faculty members, seven of whom are tenured and 19 of whom are tenure-track, as well as 125 part-time adjunct faculty. IUPUC works closely with Ivy Tech Community College of Columbus to develop articulation agreements so that students who hold associate degrees can apply those credits toward a bachelor’s degree.
